Dr. Hester Vivier was raised on a tobacco and cattle farm in Zimbabwe, Africa.  She completed her medical degree in 1987 at the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa, where she also met her husband, Dr. Andre Van Wyk.  After a year's internship at Tygerberg Hospital, in Cape Town, South Africa, the two worked in England, Newfoundland and Manitoba before eventually settling in Langley, B.C. in 2002.  Not only did she survive the weather shock, from hot Africa to northern Canadian winters.  She can also tell you more heartwarming stories of Canadian small towns, where she started her family of 5 children,  than can many native Canucks.

She joined Fort Family Practice in 2007 and currently works part time at the office and performs surgical assists at Langley Memorial Hospital (LMH).  She does not currently have admitting privileges at LMH, meaning that when her patients are admitted to hospital they are cared for by a hospitalist, or hospital-based family physician.

Dr. Vivier is also very involved in the Hear Africa Foundation, a non-profit society whose mandate is to create sustainable solutions to the issues of poverty, social support, health care, education and infrastructure development in Zimbabwe.  Amidst this very busy schedule, she also managed to earn a Master's of Business Administration in 2012 at Trinity Western University and is using these newfound skills to further support Hear Africa and to improve our clinic management.

As any of her patients or colleagues can attest, one would never guess how prolific and busy this physician is by the calm, thoughtful nature she brings to her practice.  In her spare time she enjoys reading, knitting, gardening and traveling.
